BEERSCHOT BEAT WAASLAND BEVEREN WITH TWO LATE GOALS

Beerschot have won their first pre season "home" game in Hoboken. Our Mannekes beat Waasland Beveren with 2-0 thanks to late goals from Suzuki and Coulibaly after Beveren goalie Brent Gabriël had denied our strikers in an entertaining game of football.

Beerschot combined well on the left wing with Sanyang, who created and made chances. Sanyang himself, Holzhauser and Van den Buijs saw their shots and headers saved by the visiting goalkeeper. In the third quarter Eleke and Holzhauser came close to break the deadlock but both shot wide. A handful of good scoring opportunities but 0-0 at half time.

One way traffic after the break as well, and again goalkeeper Gabriël and defender Anguilli denied Beerschot. Ten minutes before the end Beerschot finally got what they deserved. Tom Pietermaat sent Masushi Suzuki clear through the heart of the Beveren defense and our Japanese striker finished with a low shot in the right corner. And in the dying seconds Ismaila Coulibaly doubled the score with a nice chip over Gabriël for a nice, deserved and convincing 2-0 victory.

Coach Peter Maes used 19 players in this friendly: Vanhamel, Van den Buijs, Konstantopoulos, Belhadj, Coulibaly, Sanyang, Holzhauser, Okyere, Eleke, Halaimia, Pietermaat, Krekovic, Suzuki, De Smet, Dom, Mukuna, Bourabain, Van den Bergh and Noubissi
