BEERSCHOT - STANDARD 0 - 1

Third home defeat for Beerschot already this season and this was a frustfating one as our Mannekes deserved at least one point after a more than satisfactory team performance. It was a question of finishing that decided the result. Standard scored from their one and only shot on target while Beerschot saw their shots saved by goalkeeper Bodart. Marius Noubissi shot wide in a one on one with the Standard goalie and Rapha Holzhauser saw his penalty saved. Very frustrating and unfair.

Peter Maes' team showed more intensity, drive and eagerness compared to last week's disappointing home game against Union. Bamba Sanyang was excellent on the right wing but couldn't finish a sweet De Smet-Holzhauser-Noubissi combination. With high pressure football Beerschot tried to disarray Standard's attacking game and succeeded very well.

The visitors had their chances though. With their Brazilian forward Klauss being the most threatening and dangerous by a mile. His shots went wide and over Vanhamel's goal. Halfway the second half however he punished an uncertainty in the Beerschot defense and put the ball in the far corner. It was Standard's first and only shot on target.

Minutes before that Noubissi should hve scored after an impressive run on the left wing but his shot went agonisingly wide. Five minutes later Beerschot got the perfect opportunity to equalise when ref Boucaut awarded a penalty for handball from Sissako in the box. Rapha Holzhauser - normally an expert on such occasions - felt the stress and strain... and saw his penalty saved by Bordart. What a let off...

Beerschot never recovered from that knock and didn't succeed to break through that solid Standard defense in the final twenty minutes of the game... although Noubissi and Holzhauser both came close. With one point out of a possible 12 Beerschot remain in last position in the table and now face two dificult away matches against champions Club Brugge and Charleroi.
