FRUSTRATING AFTERNOON IN THE NEST

Club NXT - Beerschot 2-1

Beerschot lost against the youngsters from Club Brugge who made the difference in the first half with goals from De Smet and Vermant from the spot. Our Mannekes claimed ball possession but created only a few scoring opportunities. A late goal from Weymans brought some new hope but it was all too little too late.

Beerschot had a good start with high pressure and Verlinden came close after ten minutes. At the other end Tlbi let fly but Lathouwers saved. Gradually Club NXT took control over the game, created chances and De Smet opened the score after a swift move.  Baeten responded with a half volley and Koshi saw his shot fly over. On the stroke of half time the home team doubled their advantage from thepenalty spot after a foul on Talbi. Lathouwers had no chance against Vermant's panenka. 2-0 the score at the break.

Coach Andreas Wieland brought on three new players for the second half and changed tactics: 4-3-3 became 3-4-3 with our new striker Ayouba Kosiah making his debut. Beerschot grew better in the match, pushed the home tem back and created opportunities. However Verlinden was denied by Shinton and Kosiah came centimetres short to tap in a low cross from Van den Bergh.

Beerschot were now by far the better team. Van Himbeeck put Verlinden through but his shot ended up in the side netting and Shinton saved a header from Baeten from under the crossbar. Club NXT then threatened on the break with three shots in a row but Meisl, Matthys and Lathouwers kept the ball out.

In the last five minutes Weymans scored Beerschot's consolation goal while Kosiah came very close with a spectacular shot that went narrowly wide.
