Loss against KAA Gent

BEERSCHOT - AA GENT  0 - 2

League defeat number 23 condemns Beerschot to second division football next season. Our Mannekes couldn't build on last week's good performance in the derby against Antwerp. On Sunday night we lacked grit, imagination and determination to challenge AA Gent, even despite the fact that their coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck played some kind of a reserve team without four of his star players in his starting XI. Vadis Odjidja, Sven Kums and Tarik Tissoudali were only brought on ten minutes from the end when they were already 2-0 up. Their topscorer Laurent Depoitre even got a day off. Later that night Seraing won the Liège derby at Standard which means Beerschot are now mathematically relegated.

The first half was quite even even with missed chances for both teams. Castro-Montes and Lemajic were denied by Biebauw; Sebaoui saw his shot go wide while Shankland had his scoring opportunity saved by Roef. On the stroke of half time De Sart headed in a cross that left Biebauw stranded on the goal line.

After the break AA Gent consolidated their lead... and eventually doubled it through Lemajic. Beerschot were down and out. Only Suzuki and Sanusi threatened but their shots went wide.
