BEERSCHOT - CERCLE BRUGGE 0 - 1
Beerschot were unable to score an equaliser in the 35 minutes that remained after the opening game of the season against Cercle Brugge was postponed after heavy rain last Saturday night, with the visitors leading by the only goal. Peter Maes opted for a more offensive starting XI with Eleke and Sanyang replacing Halaimia and Krekovic. Beerschot dominated, had good intentions, pushed the visitors back in their box but lacked ideas and didn't create scoring opportunities.
The only dangerous situations came from long throw ins from Jan Van den Bergh and set pieces from Rapha Holzhauser. Only Joren Dom threatened with a belter from just outside the box but his shot went narrowly wide. Cercle Brugge's defense stood firm, with their,goalkeeper Diddilon making an important late save after a Holzhauser corner, with Noubissi - who had came on only minutes earlier - trying his luck.
In the end Cercle Brugge took the three points thanks to their goal on Saturday night, which proved to be their only shot on target. Beerschot on the other end starts the new season with a home defeat and travel to AA Gent on Sunday.
