WITH THE REFEREE IN A DUBIOUS ROLE YET AGAIN

Beveren – Beerschot 3-0

A three-nil defeat for Beerschot against promotion hunters Beveren on Saturday night. Dieumerci Mbokani was the main man for the hometeam with two goals and one assist but the Congolese striker should have been sent off earlier when he punched Konstantopoulos in the face. Referee Van Damme looked away, didn't even punish the culprit but sent off Jan Van den Bergh late in the game.  Beerschot had the right to feel victimised. Yet again as it is not the first time this season the referee played a dubious role in our matches.

Our Mannekes started well with long range shots from Rigo and Baeten before Beveren grew better into the game and  hit the woodwork twice through Nsimba. At the half hour Konstantopoulos was booked for a challenge on Mbokani. The Beveren striker retaliated with a punch but was allowed to play on without a caution while a red card was the only optional punishment. Incredible really.

Beerschot created a golden scoring opportunity on the stroke of half time to go 1-0 up after Verlinden crossed to Thorisson but goalkeeper Reus saved in the low corner.

After the break Mbokani - who shouldn't have been on the pitch anymore - decided the game in Beveren's advantage when he first converted a good through ball from Barry  and then sent Barry on his way to a second. And the hometeam kept coming forward, which eventually lead to a third goal. Again it was Mbokani who pulled the trigger. Minutes earlier Costa had missed a penalty after Rigo had fouled Verstraete in the box. His panenka spotkick was laughable.

Beerschot finished the game with just ten players after Van den Bergh was sent off with two yellow cards: the first one for a foul, the second one for dussent. He'll miss our next game against Anderlecht Futures.
