REFEREE HELPS ANDERLECHT ON THEIR WAY TO VICTORY

ANDERLECHT - BEERSCHOT  4 - 2

No big surprise win, not even a draw for Beerschot who were outrun and outplayed for most of the game by Anderlecht. The home team needed a bit of help from ref Dierick though to break the deadlock with a soft penalty in stoppage time of the first half. After the break Anderlecht made the difference with three more goals after Lawrence Shankland had scored with a brilliant header. Late in the game also Joren Dom put his name on the scoresheet.

Coach Vincent Kompany's team started in overdrive, put the pressure on from the very first minute and created a handful of good scoring opportunities, but the shots from Raman, Hoedt and Ait El Hadj were all off target. Only Kouamé hit out hard and precise but Mike Vanhamel saved.

Beerschot didn't find the space in midfield, could only defend but did that very organised, disciplined and concentrated. Just after the half hour Vaca created our one and only chance after an impressive raid on the left flank but Coulibaly shot wide.

In stoppage time of the first half referee Dierick stepped in. He put the ball on the spot after Radic tackled an already diving Ait El Hadj. A soft penalty, a sort of penalty that only the home team would get in Brussels. Anyway, Gomez sent Vanhamel to the right and converted in the left corner. Anderlecht deserved that half time lead but not in that way.

The home team doubled their advantage early in the second half with a header from Raman and looked well on their way to victory. Beerschot's reaction was both great, efficient and hopeful because almost immediately Shankland scored with a great header from a cross from Vaca. New hope for our Mannekes but that was short lived as first Kouamé, then Ashimeru found the net for an exaggerated 4-1 scoreline.

But again Beerschot knocked back in a strong last ten minutes. Joren Dom scored and then Sanyang, Bourdin and Shankland came close to a third goal. Signs of improvement they were. And a boost towards our home game against Seraing next Saturday. We are not dead and out yet...
