Report: Beerschot - KV oostende

BEERSCHOT – KV OOSTENDE  1 – 2

Beerschot hasn’t qualified for PlayOff 2 yet. It all started well though with a goal from Loris Brogno, who converted a brilliant deep ball from Jan Van den Bergh, but when an outstanding KV Oostende then took control of the game our defense was constantly under pressure. The inevitable happened ten minutes from the end when the visitors scored twice in the space of five minutes. A hard blow for our Mannekes as a draw would have put them through to Play Off 2. Vanhamel & co get a second (and last) chance to do so next Sunday against Standard.

KVOostende produced some mouth watering football right from the start: lots of movement, powerful and quick, creating a handful of scoring opportunities... but failed to take advantage as four shots went wide and/or over.

After twenty minutesBeerschot grew better into the game and had two good scoring opportunities.
Bourdin was a whisker late to put a nice Holzhauser cross in but just minutes after that Loris Brogno was successful when he picked up a marvelous deep ball from Jan Van den Bergh. Well converted.

KVO reacted immediately, took over command again, even upped the tempo but again weren’t efficient in front of goal. The best chance was for Beerschot even when on the counter Sanusi split open the Oostende defense with an impressive run but saw his shot saved by Hubert. Beerschot’s back four stayed firm under the visitor’s pressure and Vanhamel only had to be alert when Kvasina tried his luck just before half time.

Also after the break KV Oostende showed why they are still challenging for the top four. Beerschot were all over the place when the visitors upgraded their modern style of football even further, with flowing combinations, good infiltrations, dangerous crosses and powerplay all over the park.

Ten minutes from the end it all crumbled down for Beerschot. Oostende’s corner number ten was at first cleared by our strong and well organised defense but Kvasina eventually hit the target from just outside the box. And it went from bad to worse when Bataille headed in a high cross a bit later. A double knock out it was for Beerschot, who regrouped, saw a second goal (from Bakkali this time) being disallowed for offside and didn’t have the power anymore to get that equaliser.
