Report: Cercle-Beerschot

CERCLE BRUGGE – BEERSCHOT 2-1

Unlike early in the season, when Beerschot beat Club Brugge, the Jan Breydel Stadium today wasn't a happy stamping ground for Will Still's team as it was Cercle Brugge that took the three points.

In comparison to our away game in Beveren Suzuki, Van den Bergh and Vorogovskiy were in the starting line up, and Bakkali - after recovering from injury - earned his place in the squad for the very first time.

Beerschot started well with a corner from Holzhauser against the post but Cercle soon took over. With success. First Biancone headed home from a headed through ball from Bates, and just after the half hour Ugbo converted a penalty, after a foul from Sanusi on Pavlovic.

The home team were reduced to ten man when ref Van Driessche and the VAR sent off Velkovski for a dangerous high tackle on Pietermaat. But Beerschot didn't get any profit out of that situation as a header from Dom hit the post and Suzuki put the rebound high into the stand.

When Van den Bergh headed in from an inch perfect Holzhauser free kick early in the second half Beerschot were back in it. Coach Will Still brought on Zakaria Bakkali for his debut in Beerschot's colours in an attempt to score that equaliser.

All in vain however as our Mannekes created a handful of scoring opportunities but the shots and headers from Van den Bergh, Holzhauser and Suzuki all went narrowly wide.
