Engels – Match report Moeskroen-Beerschot

MOESKROEN  - BEERSCHOT  3 – 1

Beerschot are having a lean spell at the moment. That is the only conclusion after a disappointing team display on the Belgian-French border. One week after the home defeat against Eupen our ‘Mannekes’ now got beaten fair and square by wooden spoonists Moeskroen. Hernan Losada’s team were unrecognisable tonight: hardly a good combination, a helping hand to Moeskroen’s first goal and poor defensive work. Moeskroen took full advantage from Beerschot’s off day, reacted from a good midfield block and scored on the counter. The late goal from Rapha Holzhauser only has statistic value.

In a poor first half it took Beerschot more than half an hour to have a shot at goal: a volley from Coulibaly that flashed inches wide. At that moment our ‘Mannekes’ were already trailing after a rare howler from Mike Vanhamel’s. Our goalie put the ball straight into Onana’s feet and the Moeskroen midfielder scored the easiest goal of his career: a simple tip in in an empty goal. What a false start.

Beerschot never really got in their rhythm despite claiming ball possession for most of the time. The combinations were blocked off at the edge of the box… and the only dangerous situations came from set pieces and other crosses from Holzhauser. How we missed Tissoudali’s creativity and ideas up front tonight. Furthermore VAR wasn’t consulted when three Moeskroen defenders handled the ball in their box. Incredible really.

Same problems after the break. Beerschot were outplayed in midfield, didn’t find space on the wings and looked in awe how Moeskroen created a dangerous situation on the break. Da Costa meandered through the Beerschot defense, outplayed and outran four of our defenders and put the ball in the far corner. Coolly and efficiently.

With three substitutions in as many minutes Hernan Losada tried to change the game pattern… but it ricocheted right in our faces, when Tabekou scored a third goal for the home team. Holzhauser’s consolation goal in the dying minutes only made the scoreline a bit more acceptable. It didn’t ease the pain though.
