Will Still new head coach

Today Beerschot presented Will Still as their new head coach. He will be replacing Hernan Losada with immediate effect, after the Argentinian signed a three year contract with DC United in the MLS. Will Still is 28 years old and they youngest post war head coach in Belgian football. Seven years ago Still coached SK Lierse in Division 1B for a successful period in which the team won 22 points out of a possible 27. Wednesday night in Eupen Will Still will make his debut in his new role for Beerschot.

Beerschot found their successor for Losada in their own coaching staff. “We are proud that Will decided to stay at our club after Hernan’s departure”, technical manager Sander Van Praet says. “He has always played a major role in Beerschot’s coaching staff since his arrival here and has potential to make it as head coach as well.” Will Still signed  a contract that expires at the end of this season.

“I am sure Will Still will be the perfect successor for Hernan Losada”, club chairman Francis Vranken stated at the press conference this afternoon. “We are aware of his qualities. He was very important in Beerschot’s development from Division 1B up till now. Our choice to upgrade him is logical. People who work hard for our club get rewarded for that. He connects his enthusiasm with his talent and is a textbook example in that respect.”

Vice chairman Walter Damen: “With Will Still Beerschot now has the youngest coach in Division 1A, and that is quite a scoop. It doesn’t come as a surprise at all. We always put our own people first when decisions have to be made. And Will Still will take our club to a higher level.”

Also head of Performance coach Pieter Jacobs remains faithful to Beerschot. “This club has given me confidence and responsibility from day one. I am happy and proud I can stay here and remain part of our beautiful project, together with this strong coaching staff.”

Davy De Smedt will be our assistant coach from now on and until the end of this season. He is no stranger to the club either. The 42 year old captained KFCO Beerschot Wilrijk during their impressive rise from provincial amateur football to Division 3 and signed a contract as Beerschot’s Academy Manager in 2020. He will be combining both jobs. “I am excited and very much looking forward to be a part of the coaching staff. And at the same time I will remain closely involved with the daily operational work  of our Youth Academy. Within our Academy we have worked hard and moved up considerably the last couple of months. I am confident we will continue to do so in the future”, De Smedt rounded off.
