Beerschot started with a three-man defense, with Andres Labie making his first start. The Mannekes came out eager in the opening stages and immediately took control. After seven minutes, Beerschot had their first chance, but Van la Parra couldn’t get past goalkeeper Hiller. Fifteen minutes in, Beerschot had a golden opportunity to take the lead: a free kick from Van Eenoo cleared the visiting defense, but Kosiah couldn’t keep his effort down, leaving the score at 0-0.
On the half-hour mark, however, came a cold shower. Eupen, who had not yet created any danger, suddenly struck. Delaurier-Chaubet scored from a very tight angle, putting the visitors 0-1 ahead against the run of play. That was also the halftime score.
Even after the break, Beerschot continued to push for a goal. It eventually came from a set piece. Just like last week, it was Bas Van den Eynden who delivered the equalizer. From a Van Himbeeck corner, Mbe Soh managed to keep the ball in play at the far post and laid it back to Van den Eynden, who hammered it past Hiller in one touch. The Mannekes were deservedly back on level terms.
What followed were more big chances for Beerschot. Vargas headed just wide, and in the dying moments Van Eenoo saw his strike crash against the post. The score remained level at the Olympic Stadium.
Beerschot deserved more, but will have to settle for four points from their first two games.
Next week, the team travels to the Planet Group Arena to face Jong Gent.
