David Mukuna signs first contract as a pro

Beerschot has an extra professional footballer in his squad. Today David Mukuna-Trouet signed a contract until June 2022 with an option for another two years. Mukuna-Trouet played for amateur club Walhain last season but joined Beerschot on a trial and impressed right from the start. He joined the A squad in October, kept up the good work on the training pitch ever since and was rewarded with this pro contract.

“David has made huge progress in his first months at the club”, technical manager Sander Van Praet says about the 1.92 metres tall striker. “He has the right attitude. He is calm, modest, eager to learn and shows a lot of effort during training sessions. That already earned him a couple of playing minutes in our games against Antwerp and Sint-Truiden earlier this season… and now this professional contract. This gives him the opportunity to develop further without too much pressure. We believe is his qualities. He enforced this all on his own.”

“He is fast, powerful, bipedal and always chooses the shortest way towards goal”, adds assistant coach and Academy Manager Davy De Smedt. “Despite the fact he only joined Beerschot at the start of this season, he is exemplary in how we want to work with our youth players. By giving talented youngsters the opportunity to train with ‘the big boys’ we want to create more perspective.”

Our striker with Congolese roots is over the moon with his first pro contract. “I was happy and flabbergasted when I heard the news that Beerschot wanted to offer me a contract. I feel at home here and made a lot of progress in a short time. The atmosphere in the dressing room is outstanding. This is by far the best and funniest group of players I’ve played and trained with. The more experienced players help me a lot by sharing their know how. I appreciate that very much”, Mukuna-Trouet explains.

“A couple of weeks ago we started talking about the possibility for a first contract”, he recalls. “I was so proud, and so were my parents. They always gave me the advice to work hard, never lose confidence and show the right, positive mentality. That’s what I have always done… and I get rewarded for all that now.”
