George Broadbent joins Beerschot on loan from Sheffield United.

Beerschot added midfielder George Broadbent to its first team today. The twenty year old Englishman joins our team on loan from Premier League side Sheffield United.

Broadbent comes to Belgium with a clear goal in mind. "This is a great opportunity for me. This is the first time I will be playing abroad and I consider it a big bonus in my development as a professional footballer. This takes me out of my comfort zone and allows me to grow both as a player and as a person."

Today, Monday January eleventh, the Englishman has been in Belgium a week and likes this new experience. The first impressions are positive. "I haven't had the chance to go outside very much because of the mandatory quarantine", he tells us. "But I've heard a lot of nice things about Antwerp and I can't wait to start exploring the city."

Technical manager Sander Van Praet explains the move: "We hope George will add more depth to our central midfield. Thanks to our close relationship with Sheffield United we've had him on our radar for quite some time. George is a midfielder who likes to infiltrate a lot. He's always in or around the box. We are sure George will prove his value and will also continue to progress."

Jack Lester, head of the Sheffield United academy is also pleased about the opportunity for George. “George has progressed fantastically well this season with our U23’s. He has made big strides both physically and tactically with his game understanding. He has added goals to his game as well, which made him a popular acquisition for quite a few teams who were eager to take him on as a loanee. A move to Beerschot is a great opportunity for George. There he has the opportunity to  develop further and to play in Belgium’s top league.  We look forward to seeing him make progression.”
