BEERSCHOT – AA GENT 1 – 1
A half success for Beerschot this afternoon after four defeats on the trot. Thanks to hard work and strong defensive work, especially after the break when AA Gent were the more dangerous side. 1-1 was a fair result.
Coach Hernan Losada surprised with his starting eleven: Pietermaat was used as right wing back and Sanyang got the nod in Tissoudali’s position. After only eight minutes Beerschot missed a golden opportunity to open the score when Holzhauser saw his penalty saved by Bolat.. Unlike against Anderlecht, when he netted the rebound, Rapha didn’t get a second chance this time. Bad luck.
Halfway the first half our Mannekes did score. Sanyang found Coulibaly in the box, who poached and put the ball in the net. AA Gent’s reaction came straight away with a flowing combination on the right, a high cross that isolated Depoitre. But Mike Vanhamel saved the former Huddersfield Town striker’s hard shot.
The visitors, who grew better in the game by the minute, got an equaliser just before the break, thanks to those ridiculous ‘new’ handball-rulings. The ref awarded a spotkick after consulting VAR when a hard shot ricocheted off Frans’ elbow. Kums did better from twelve yards than Holzhauser earlier.
AA Gent put the pressure on in the second half, monopolized the ball and forced four corners in a row at a certain moment. But Beerschot’s counter attacks through Sanyang and Suzuki were quite dangerous as well.
Twenty minutes before the end Beerschot got VAR at their side finally when a goal from Bukari was disallowed for one or two inches offside. A big relief.
