Cheikh Thiam signed a contract with Beerschot until June 2025 on Tuesday after completing a succesful trial. The 20 year old defender came through Zulte Waregem's Academy in 2021 where he learned the trade, and became a member of the first team squad under coach Mbaye Leye.
"I couldn't sign a contract at a new team because of financial reasons, so I jumped on the opportunity to come to Beerschot for a trial as a free agent", says Thiam. "Here I got the chance to show what I am made of. The other players immediately made me feel welcome; the atmosphere in the young group was and is great. I enjoyed training at Beerschot and am over the moon I was able to convince the coaching staff and ultimately given a contract for one and a half year."
"Cheikh worked really hard during his trial period and showed a lot of potential", technical manager Gyorgy Cserpegi says. "By offering him a contract we give him the opportunity to grow further as a centrl defender. He is an assett to our squad."
