DEFEAT AGAINST THE LEADERS
RWDM - Beerschot 4-0
Four-nil the scoreline, that is a heavy defeat for Beerschot at the Edmond Machtens Stadium of league leaders RWDM. The home team made the difference in the first half with some efficient football, scoring three times out of five opportunities. Beerschot had no answer to that, got better into the game after the break but conceded a fourth ten minutes from time.
RWDM scored their first after just three minutes when Lathouwers saved a shot from Vorogovskiy but Biron headed in at the far post seconds later. It got from bad to worse when our defence fumbled at a high ball that allowed Challouk to send Hazard on his way for number two. And RWDM kept coming, forcing Lathouwers to save spectaculary on a header from O'Brien.
Assistant coach Thomas Darasz, who replaced our suspended T1 Andreas Wieland as head coach today, made some drastic tactical changes on the half hour, taking Kosiah off and sending Weymans on, moving back to the more familiar three men defence. However, that didn't help either as shortly later Konstantopolous put the ball into his own net. Three-nil. Beerschot's only challenge was a shot from Van Himbeeck that was saved by Defourny.
A couple of (minor) chances for Beerschot in the second half with Verlinden and Koshi trying their luck, but again Defourny covered easily. Ten minutes from time RWDM scored a fourth by Hazard who beat Lathouwers from outside the box. The end of a frustrating collective off-day.
