DOUBLE COLD SHOWER IN AS MANY MINUTES

Beerschot missed a golden opportunity to clinch their second home win of the season and at the same time top spot in the table. Totally unnecessary as Andreas Wieland's troops were handsomely leading 2-1 after an hour... and then conceded two goals in as many minutes. Lierse forwards Leonardo Rocha and Serge Tabekou made the difference with two well taken strikes after the Beerschot defense shuttered and looked uncomfortable on both occasions. 

Our Mannekes started well and created the first chances with shots from Verlinden and Vaca, but the visitors were more dangerous on the break. Three times in a row they threatened. Tabekou's shot went over the bar, De Schrijver hit the post and Vanhamel saved Rocha's header.

After 30 minutes Thibo Baeten opened the score when he reacted well to a blocked Koshi shot and hit home with a brilliant volley. Beerschot's joy only lasted ten minutes because Lierse were gifted their equaliser after an unnecessary corner, defensive uncertainty and bad man marking. Koshi at first saved Rocha's shot on the line but then the Lierse forward was allowed to score with an easy header. Beerschot reacted well with a shot from Thibaud Verlinden that bounced off the crossbar.

No good fortune also right after the break when both Verlinden and Baeten saw their shots come back from the bar and the post. On the hour Beerschot were rewarded for their good combination football, pressure and grit when Dante Rigo put the ball in the net from outside the box. 2-1 and we looked on our way to our second home win of the season.

One hundred and twenty seconds later however Lierse were 2-3 up after a couple of moments of bad defending and a bad back pass in the Beerschot defense. Not suprisingly it were Rocha and Tabekou again who destroyed our hopes with clinical finishing. Beerschot never recovered from that double uppercut, tried their best to salvage at least a point but missed that little bit of luck, oversight and efficiency to do so.
