How did our three internationals do?

Three Beerschot players were on international duty last week. Stipe Radic was part of the Croatian U20 squad that played against Turkey. Yan Vorogovskiy had two difficult games in the World Cup Qualifying stage with Kazachstan against France and Ukraine. And Abdoulie Sanyang faced the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola with Gambia in an attempt to qualify for the final stages of the African Cup. How did our Mannekes do?

Croatia U20 had a handsome 4-1 win against Turkey, with Stipe Radic playing for 74 minutes in a central defender role.

Kazachstan picked up one point when they drew 1-1 with Ukraine. Yan Vorogovskiy came on at half time and saw his team mate Muzhikov score the equaliser. France proved too strong (2-0) for the Kazachstan team, with Vorogovskiy playing the last half hour.

Abdoulie Sanyang’s international trip was by far the most successful as he played an important part in Gambia’s brilliant run to the Africa Cup Finals. A 1-0 win over Angola proved enough to qualify for the final stages for the first time in Gambia’s football history. The second game against the Democratic Republic of Congo ended in defeat but couldn’t disturb the festivities and jubilant scenes in the streets of Gambia, where youngsters celebrated for hours, some of them even wearing Sanyang’s Beerschot shirt. Nice to see that was…
