OUTPLAYED AND OVERPOWERED

CERCLE BRUGGE - BEERSCHOT  2 - 0

Beerschot couldn't build on last weekend's hopeful victory against KV Kortrijk. Our Mannekes were in every way second best against a good footballing Cercle Brugge and shot themselves in the foot when Marius Noubissi was sent off after a reckless tackle on the half hour. The home team were faster, more efficient and showed more class. Their victory was well deserved, goalkeeper Mike Vanhamel spared us more blushes with a couple of brilliant saves.

Joren Dom with a header and Ryan Sanusi with a shot threatened in the first minutes but then Cercle took over and produced some
one way traffic football towards Vanhamel's goal. Deman, Denkey and Hotic went close but our goalkeeper denied the home team's strikers. But when Denkey headed in a Hotic corner and Noubissi was sent off for a late tackle on Popovic it was over and out for Beerschot. With half time looming Denkey saw his second goal disallowed for off side but Matondo eventually hit the target when he knocked the ball in that rebounded from the post. Beerschot's only and weak reply came from a Holzhauser free kick. Didillon covered easily.

Cercle dominated the second half as well. Their goalkeeper had the afternoon off while at the other end Vanhamel had to show his ability on shots from Deman, Hotic and Matondo. No more goals were scored.
